    Or a slightly thicker metal will require more laser intensity to be cut.
    Test each type of material and see what level of power each need.

    Then write down all the new information in a notebook.
    The next time you work with that type of material again, you will know precisely what level of intensity it needs to be cut or engraved.

    The speed of the laser will determine how fast it will move while cutting or engraving a material.
    If the laser speed is set to a lower value, it will move slower and stay longer at a certain point on the material’s surface.

    And this can lead to fire again.
    Why do you ask?
    The longer the laser stays at one point on the surface of a material, the higher the temperature of the material at that point.

    And a high temperature always means an increased risk of fire.
    Also, a slow speed will cause the laser to create deeper cuts or engravings.

  5. Frequency settings

    In addition to laser power and speed control options, there is another variable whose value can be changed as needed.

    And that is represented by the frequency of the pulses emitted by the laser within each inch of material.
    To better understand how this property of the laser can influence the result, we need to look at how the cutter works.

    When it works, the laser is not emitted constantly.
    In raster mode, the laser works like an inkjet printer.

    It prints thousands and thousands of tiny dots on every inch of the fabric’s surface.
    Maybe the material you want to engrave has a darker shade. The number of these dots will need to be increased to highlight the engraving.

    Well, the way the laser works will be different in vector mode.
    In this way, the laser moves on the material’s surface in a straight line.

    The laser speed will need to be lowered to get the same visual result as in raster mode, and the power will be increased.
    In this mode, the laser is turned off and on several times in a single second.

    This stopping and restarting of the laser immediately occur so quickly that it is impossible to observe with the naked eye.
    The range of values within which you can set the laser frequency is quite broad.

    It can have any value between 10 and 5000 pulses per inch of material.
    But any value of frequency comes with its advantages and disadvantages.

    Too much frequency will increase the temperature of the material.
    And we all already know what an increase in the temperature of the material means.

    There’s an increase in the chances of fires.
    You should consider this if the material you are working with is highly flammable and can catch fire quickly.

    In this case, you may want to consider lowering the frequency value.
    If you want the material you are working on not to look too burnt, you should lower the frequency again.

  6. How the laser works

    As mentioned before, there are two ways to operate a laser cutter’s laser:
    – vector mode
    – raster mode
    Need to engrave an object?
    Then raster mode is the right choice for you.

    Do you want to cut an object?

    For this, it is more efficient to use the vector mode.
    How a laser works in raster mode is similar to how a printer works.

    Everyone knows how a printer works.
    It starts printing text on a piece of paper from the top and continues printing down.

    The text is also printed from left to right.
    Well, a raster laser will do the engraving process in the same way.

    Engraving will begin at the top of the object and continue to the bottom.
    The laser also moves on the object’s surface from its left side to its right side.

    When the laser encounters a portion of the object that it does not need to engrave, it quickly stops.
    And when the laser reaches the part to be engraved again, it starts quickly.
    This process is so fast that it cannot be seen with the naked eye.

    It’s a little different when it comes to how vector mode works.
    In this mode of operation, the laser will start cutting at a certain point in the object and continue in a straight line.
    When it reaches the edge of the object, the laser stops.

    Then it restarts and starts cutting another line on the object’s surface.
    This process is repeated until the entire image is formed on the object’s surface.

    Due to the unique mode of operation, the vector mode is often used for cutting.
    The advantage of using raster mode is that you can try to engrave any image on the surface of objects.

    But when using vector mode, you need to ensure that the image you want to crop from the object has a contour of 0.025 mm.
    This is necessary to give the laser a thin line to follow.

  7. Editing program

    Turn on the computer to which the laser cutter is connected and access the image editing program.
    In it, access the image you want to use.

    Adjust the image size to match the object holder inside the laser cutter.

    When you are done with these steps, click on “File.”
    Then select “Print.”
